Jane Austen owned a simple gold ring set with an oval turquoise, one of only three pieces of her jewellery known to survive. In 2012 the singer Kelly Clarkson bought it at auction; the British government delayed its export, and Jane Austen’s House in Chawton raised the money to keep it. It is there today. Ours keeps the plain band and the oval stone, in turquoise too.
